Introduction

What is going on in the world right now? To answer that question in America, nearly every person can simply hold up a finger, pull out their phone, tap their screen once and be able to tell you anything you want to know. These days people see the news and think "what is this world coming to?" without realizing that in our years before the omnipresent Internet and smart phones, that stuff was going on then, too. We just usually didn't find out about it unless it was a local incident. What's changed? How has the Internet impacted the American political climate? How many people are even aware that it has indeed had a HUGE impact? What has social media done for the world, in good ways and bad? Why have most of the mainstream news outlets turned into little more than a platform for opinion based journalism? Why is it now the norm for those outlets to ruthlessly bash their antagonists? The media have always claimed "holding the powerful accountable", but who holds the media accountable?

This blog is set up for a course in Mass Media & Politics at Kennesaw State University. It's intention is to respectfully invoke a skepticism of the American media and encourage knowledge based on facts from credible sources.
